Bhubaneswar: Tensions ran high outside the office of the District Collectorate in Keonjhar as family members of a tribal student, who reportedly died under mysterious circumstances at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), staged a protest demanding justice.
The deceased Class IX student has been identified as Shiba Munda, son of Raghunath Munda of Tikargumura village under the Town police station in Keonjhar district.
According to his family, they received a call from the school administration stating that Shiba had fallen in the bathroom and broken his leg, and was being treated at a hospital. However, when his father arrived at the hospital, he was told that his son had died, and was handed over the body that showed signs of rope marks on the neck and hands.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased student claimed that the school authorities misled them about the circumstances of the student’s death. They suspected foul play and accused the school authorities of covering up the incident. The family members of the deceased student filed a complaint with Keonjhar Town Police.
Apart from a thorough investigation, they also demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore and punishment for those responsible.
Police, meanwhile, pacified the protesting villagers and sent the body to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem and are investigating the matter.
