Bhubaneswar: Lord Vishwakarma is considered to be the world’s first architect and this year Vishwakarma Jayanti falls on September 17 (Saturday). According to the Hindu calendar, Vishwakarma Puja is performed on the Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. Lord Vishwakarma is worshiped on this day especially at factories, in tools, construction work, machines, shops, factories, motor garages, workshops, lathe units, cottages and small units etc.
On this day, the machines, vehicles and tools are cleaned and worshipped. The idol of Vishwakarmaji is duly worshiped along with Lord Vishnu and they are offered seasonal fruits, sweets, Panchameva, Panchamrit etc. The aarti of both the deities is performed by lighting lamps, incense etc.
There are different stories in the scriptures about the birth of Lord Vishwakarma. According to Varaha Purana, Lord Brahma created Vishwakarma on earth. At the same time, according to Vishwakarma Purana, Adi Narayan first created Brahmaji and then Vishwakarma. The birth of Lord Vishwakarma is also associated with the churning of the ocean between the gods and the demons.
In this way, the stories that are found in the scriptures regarding the birth of Lord Vishwakarma, it is known that Vishwakarma has become not one but many and from time to time with his actions and knowledge, he has been helpful in the development of the universe.
From this description of Lord Vishwakarma in the scriptures, it is indicated that Vishwakarma is a kind of designation and title, which was said to have the best knowledge of craftsmanship.Virat Vishwakarma was the first, followed by Dharmavanshi Vishwakarma, Angiravanshi, then Sudhanva Vishwakarma.
Then Shukracharya’s grandson was Bhriguvanshi Vishwakarma. It is believed that on the request of the gods, Vishwakarma made a powerful thunderbolt for Indra, the heavenly lord, from the bones of Maharishi Dadhichi.
Vishwakarma had created all the famous cities and capitals in ancient times, such as the heaven of Satyuga, Lanka of Tretayuga, Dwarka of Dwapar and Hastinapur of Kaliyuga.
Vishwakarma had also built the trident of Mahadev, the Sudarshan Chakra of Sri Hari, the mace of Hanuman ji, the Kaladand of Yamraj, the Kundal of Karna and the Pushpak Vimana of Kubera.
He was such a great master of craftsmanship that he had the ability to make wooden sandles with which one could walk on water!
