Bhubaneswar: It has been six months of fighting with COVID-19 and Odisha’s brave Covid Warriors have been at the forefront of this war. More recently, coronavirus is getting the better of the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and especially of the latter. And sadly, the worst affected are the Covid Warriors.
Amongst those to get infected are the members of the Twin City Police, leaving the force slightly depleted and hence sparse enforcement.
The Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi had shared that of the 20 police stations in Bhubaneswar, 9 station heads have gotten infected with the novel coronavirus. Of the SPs heading the six zones in the State Capital, three have become victims of the deadly virus. Cumulatively, 1000 police officers have so far been tested positive for COVID-19 with the deadly virus becoming the cause of death for four brave cops.
Cops continue to remain vulnerably exposed to rising COVID-19 infections and here’s why. They are guarding containment zones and enforcing the guidelines. The shortage of staff coupled with Bhubaneswar-Cuttack hitting the peak infection has become a huge challenge.
Taking the scenario in consideration, Odisha Police DG Abhay announced the allotment of 50 more officers and five more platoons Armed Police to twin city to enhance enforcement. He added that Bhubaneswar will be divided into three zones for purpose of COVID enforcement with one DCP looking after each zone.
