Know The Cases Registered Against Abhijit Iyer Mitra In Odisha

**Cuttack:** Though anti-Odisha tirade initiator Abhijit Iyer Mitra was granted conditional bail by the Delhi Saket Court today, he has also been directed to appear before Konark Police Station in Odisha by September 28 to join the ongoing investigation.

Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi informed that a case had been registered against Abhijit at the Konark Police Station on September 19 for posting derogatory remarks against Odisha’s culture and religion on social media.

Abhijit was booked under IPC’s section 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and section 290 (punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for) and section 66 of Information Technology Act (sending offensive messages through communication service).

A team of Odisha Police had reached New Delhi in connection with the case and had arrested Abhijit today. In the meantime, similar complaint was lodged against Abhijit at Sahid Nagar Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

Following it, a case was registered against him under IPC’s section 294 (obscene acts or words in public), section 500 (punishment for defamation), section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and disrupting harmony) and section 66 of Information Technology Act.

Priyadarshi said, “The remarks of Abhijit have hurt the sentiments of nearly 4 crores people of Odisha. Acting on it, we had arrested him after a thorough probe. We will continue the probe even after he deposes before the Odisha Police as per the court’s order.”
