Bhubaneswar: Celebrated on the last day of Chaitra Navaratri, Hindu festival Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Ram. It is celebrated to mark the divine reincarnation of Lord Vishnu in the avatar of Lord Ram, who was born in 'Treta Yuga' to Queen Kausalya and King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. Lord Ram- king of Righteousness, virtue and love- takes the centre stage in ancient Hindu epic Ramayana and he is also mentioned in texts of Jain and Buddhist scriptures.

In Odisha, devotees line up outside Bhubaneswar’s Ram Mandir to pray, recite Ram Katha and conduct rituals. In Bhadrak, the Ram Temple at Charampa notices a huge gathering of people. Kalash Sobhayatra (procession) is also conducted at certain pockets of the city.

This year, Ram Navami Puja Muhurata (the auspicious time) is from 11:13 AM to 1:43 PM and the Ram Navami Madhyahna Moment is at 12:28 PM. Celebrated on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha (or bright phase of the lunar fortnight) in the month of Chaitra (mid-march), Ram Navami falls on a different day and date every year based on the Lunar calendar.

This year, Ram Navami Thithi starts on April 13 at 11:41am and ends at 9:35 am on April 14. The festival also indicates the removal of evil and restoration of Dharma (divine power) on the earth. In Uttar Pradesh, people throng to take a dip in the sacred river Sarayu and then offer their prayers to the deity. On the occasion, a special Rath Yatra (chariot procession) is also organized. The festival is celebrated with great devotion in Sitamarhi, Bihar and Rameswaram as well.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted people on the occasion.

In a message, Kovind said, the life of Lord Ram inspires the people to follow his footsteps and strive for nobility in thought, words and deeds. He said people should imbibe these values in the service of a prosperous nation and a harmonious world.

In a tweet, Modi said, extended his warm greetings to all citizens on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami.
