Bhubaneswar: Aggrieved villagers in several parts of Odisha boycotted the second phase of the panchayat polls citing various reasons including the absence of basic amenities.
In Dhenkanal, voters of Mahulpunji village in Bhapur gram panchayat have boycotted the polling opposing a poultry farm near the village.
Women of the village are staging dharna near the polling station in the gram panchayat. As a result, polling has been disrupted at booths 17, 18, and 19.
In Nabarangpur, villagers of Baradajodi and Ladipadar under Tentulikhunti panchayat boycotted the polls protesting the alleged lack of basic amenities in their areas.
Both Baradajodi and Ladipadar lack proper road facilities. Due to rocky roads in the hilly areas, the people not only face difficulty during commuting but access to health services are also affected.
Even though there are many boys and girls in Baradajodi village, they are deprived of education due to the lack of a school. Similarly, the two villages do not have a drinking water facility.
In Cuttack, voters boycotted polling at booth-15 in Kuranga Sasan of Cuttack district protesting detention of some people by police in connection with a case.
In Koraput, voters at Sukhiaguda village under Tankua gram panchayat in Jeypore block have boycotted the polling due to the lack of proper roads in the village despite repeated demands.
