**Bhubaneswar: ** Following the hue and cry over the protection of the historical monument and world heritage Konark Sun Temple, the Odisha delegation led by Tourism Minister has been allowed time to hold discussion at Delhi on November 28.
Such a significant development has taken place in the wake of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik having already written letter to the Union Minister of Culture. Also it is close on the heels of the grave issue raised in the recently concluded Winter Session of Assembly by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra.
Informing media today at the State Secretariat, Odisha Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda said, “The issue pertaining to the protection of Konark Sun Temple has been highlighted in media and several organizations have also expressed their deep concerns. Already a meeting has been held in this regard here in the Secretariat chaired by me. G.C. Mitra and Amiya Bhusan Tripathy of INTACH and two local MLAs were present in the meeting.”
He further informed, “We have all decided for action taken report by December 15 and have demanded for the Konark Steering Committee meeting headed by DG, ASI.”
The Odisha Tourism and Culture Minister stated, “It’s well-known that the Chief Minister has already drawn the attention of Union Culture Minister in this regard. Besides, I had also talked to the Union Minister. We had requested for a meeting and intended for an appointment.”
“The Union Minister has allowed appointment on November 28 at Delhi. I, our departmental Secretary, locals MLAs-Samir Ranjan Das and Surendra Nath Sethi of Konark-Kakatpur constituency, are going to Delhi and discuss on the issue with the Union Minister,” he informed.
