Konark: After remaining closed for 10 days due to minor damages in Cyclone FANI, the Konark Sun Temple reopened to the public today and visitors were seen entering the temple through manual-ticketing.
On May 10, a team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials led by Director General Usha Sharma had visited the temple to assess the nature and quantum of damage caused by the cyclone.
The team had observed that by and large there was no structural damage to the Monument. The team informed that there was some dislocation in the scaffolding which would be set right soon.
More than 200 trees have been damaged which are being cleared. The electric and illumination system including internet access has gone out of order, restoration of which will take some time.
The chemical cleaning and consolidation of eastern face will be completed on priority. The monument will be restored back to normal within about a fortnight, informed Sharma.
