Bhubaneswar: In a surprising move, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has barred tourists from entering the Nata Mandir of the World Heritage Site, Konark Sun Temple.
The decision has been taken citing safety concerns, as several tourists were seen falling down while exploring the structure.
The Nata Mandir, known for its intricate carvings, was a major attraction of the Sun temple for visitors. However, with the increasing number of tourists, the ASI has decided to restrict access to the Nata Mandir or Nata Mandap area to prevent accidents.
The temple attracts thousands of tourists daily, and the move has left many disappointed, especially those who had travelled from afar.
The move also means that tourists will no longer be able to witness the intricate carvings and designs on the Nata Mandir up close, despite paying an entry fee to visit the temple.
