Bhubaneswar: The Special Judge Vigilance, Jeypore today sentenced Gokul Chandra Nayak, Chief District Agriculture Officer, Jeypore in Koraput district to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for two years after convicting him for taking bribe, said an official press release.
The Judge also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Nayak.
In default of payment of the fine, Nayak has to further undergo RI for a period of six months.
Nayak while serving as the Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) of Umarkote in Nabarangpur district was charge sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance for demand and acceptance of illegal gratification (bribe) from a person for issuance of fertilizer license in his favour.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for Nayak’s dismissal from service following his conviction, the release said.
