Koraput: Power generation at Machkund Hydroelectric Project was temporarily halted after flood water seeped through the walls of the dam.
According to reports, floodwater entered Unit 2 of the hydro power project leading to temporary closure of the unit today.
Efforts are underway to flush out floodwater and resume operation.
Following heavy rain, floodwater was flowing over the danger mark at the main reservoir.
Five gates of the project have been opened to release the flood water. As much as 23,000 cusecs water is being released from the reservoir.
Besides, 20,000 cusecs of water is released every second from Machkund’s D Dam through 4 gates into the Machkund River.
