Koraput: The Jeypore Additional District Judge (ADJ)-cum-Special POCSO Court today sentenced one Bhagaban Anaka of Dangrapalli village under Kundra police limits in Koraput district to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life after convicting him for raping a minor girl in 2014.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 27,000 and on failure to pay the fine, the convict has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for another 17 months.
The court further ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay the victim a sum of Rs 8 lakh in addition to the fine collected from the convict.
The court pronounced the sentence on the basis of depositions of 13 witnesses.
According to the details of the case, Anaka had raped the minor girl on March 4, 2014, by threatening to kill her with a knife while she had gone to attend to nature’s call during a wedding feast.
Further, Anaka kidnapped the victim and kept her in a house at Panakaguda for two days and repeatedly raped her. He threatened the victim to kill her if she revealed about her ordeal to anyone.
The victim’s family members lodged a complaint at the SDJM’s court after she narrated her ordeal to them.
Following the orders of the SDJM court, the Mahila police registered a case and arrested Anaka and forwarded him to court.
