Koraput: The Superintendent of Police (SP) in Odisha’s Koraput district has suspended 11 cops on charges of dereliction of duty. The SP suspended three Sub-Inspectors, two constables and two home guards for allegedly releasing some criminals and vehicles involved in ganja (cannabis) smuggling.
On Monday night, a joint team of Machhkund and Lamtaput police intercepted a truck suspected to be engaged in ganja smuggling. However, instead of arresting the criminals and seizing the vehicle, the police personnel on duty reportedly allowed them to go scot-free. When the matter was brought to the notice of the senior district police officials, they immediately swung into action and launched a probe.
As an investigation is still underway, the actual picture became clear after the senior police officials issued a statement regarding what exactly transpired and why action was taken against the police personnel.
