Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, the police officials of Koraput’s Machkund police have apprehended contraband ganja worth 40 lakhs rupees while being smuggled through two vehicles on Monday.
As per the sources, the police officials after receiving a tip-off about some miscreants trying to smuggle contraband ganja outside of Odisha via Jeypore, formed a team under the command of SP Koraput, to arrest the culprits.
Under the supervision of SDPO Nandapur, a team was formed to crack down on the culprits.
The team led by Sub-inspector Gobinda Chandra Hansdah gheraoed and arrested the miscreants near Tusuba Chowk, Lamptaput.
The two accused caught are identified as Manoj Oram (36), and Mohammad Sarfaraj (20) both belonging to the Jharsuguda district of Odisha.
In the operation, 18 tinsel plastic bags containing Ganja weighing 409 kg and 600 grams were seized, along with two four-wheelers, a smartphone and a keypad phone.
Out of two seized four-wheelers, one is a TATA Indigo eCS bearing registration number OD15B5571, and the other is a Hyundai Santro car with OR05Z2113 registration number.
Further investigation on the matter is on.
