Bhubaneswar: Kendriya Vidyalaya NIT Rourkela celebrated its 2nd Annual Day, “AIKYAM 2.0 – Uniting Hearts for a Better Tomorrow”, with grandeur at the Bhubaneswar Behera Auditorium (BBA), NIT Rourkela, on Saturday evening. The event was graced by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela, as the Chief Guest.
The celebration began with a melodious welcome song and a graceful invocation dance by KV students. Principal P. Neeraja, while presenting the annual report, highlighted the school’s achievements in its inaugural year. “KV NIT Rourkela, inaugurated on November 30, 2023, has grown to 242 students with the addition of Class VI this year. Aligned with NEP 2020, we focus on holistic development, blending academics with creativity, skills, values, community engagement, and teacher development. I am proud to share that our school secured 1st position in the Bhubaneswar Region and 2nd at the national level in the Learners’ Achievement Test (LAT), along with multiple regional and state-level accolades in Maths, Science, and English Olympiads,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to NIT Rourkela Administration and the KV faculty, staff, and students for their support in fostering student growth.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao lauded the students’ creativity and enthusiasm. “The school’s remarkable progress demonstrates that it is not the size or age of a school but the dedication of teachers and willingness of students that drives excellence. With a small yet committed team, KV NIT Rourkela has set an example of teamwork and purpose. The annual function, blending AI-based visuals with dance, music, and presentations, was truly engaging and memorable,” he remarked.
The cultural programme, hosted by Sambit Das, featured a vibrant mix of performances, including a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram celebrating its 150th anniversary, a dance-drama on the Ramayana, Eklavya – a tribute to the Guru-Shishya tradition, Yoddha Dance, Sambalpuri Dance, and a dance on National Symbols. A special performance of “Bum Bum Bole” by differently-abled children drew widespread applause. Thematic presentations such as “Har Ke Bhi Jeet” and “Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi”, celebrating Indian women cricketers, further highlighted the students’ talent. Satyapriya Panigrahi and Pariseema Rath coordinated the performances along with KV staff.
Over 600 participants, including students, parents, KV teachers, staff, and guests from other Kendriya Vidyalayas, attended the event. The gathering was further honored by members of the Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC) including Prof. Surajit Das, Prof. Rohan Dhiman, Prof. Anil Singh, and Prof. Manish Okade, along with Prof. Rajeev Panda, President of the Student Activity Centre, and Hemalata Nayak, Principal of PM Shiksha Kendra, KV Bondamunda. Several Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and staff of NIT Rourkela were also present.
The programme concluded with prize distribution, the release of the school magazine, and lively student-teacher, parent-teacher, and teachers’ dances, followed by a vote of thanks by Pragnya Parimita Thakur and the National Anthem, leaving the audience with fond memories of celebration, unity, and achievement.
