Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo participated in the National Conference on Agriculture – Rabi Crops Program and discussed various Rabi crops related to agriculture in the State.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Agriculture Ministers of other States also attended the conference. In the National Food Security Plan, Singh Deo proposed to provide financial support for the cultivation of pulses and oilseed crops on 2.5 lakh hectares of paddy land.
In addition, he demanded the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to increase the field performance expenditure per hectare for sunflower, groundnuts and beekeeping.
The Minister has proposed to approve the annual program plan of 8.34 crore rupees provided by the State in the Agro-Forestry program under the National Development Plan.
Keeping in view the state’s vulnerability to natural disasters, it is proposed to set up a research centre for deep land agriculture in coastal Odisha and an agricultural machinery development, training and testing centre to bring innovation in agricultural mechanization in western Odisha.
