Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested Bhagirathi Kharsel, a junior clerk in the office of the Joint Labour Commissioner, Sambalpur for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a labour contractor for issuing of license for 55 labourers with a validity of one year.
Based on the complaint of the labour contractor (complainant) Vigilance officials laid a trap today in which accused Kharsel was caught while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in his office room.
Vigilance officials recovered the entire bribe money from Kharsel’s possession and seized it in the presence of witnesses.
Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Sri Kharsel gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming his acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the Government quarter of Kharsel near Zilla School Chowk, Sambalpur and house at native village Jharghati, under Sason police limits in Sambalpur district.
In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case under section 7 PC Amendment Act, 2018 and is under investigation
