Rourkela: A 30-year-old labourer was killed and two others were injured after an explosion in the blast furnace of Subh Ispat Udyog, a private steel industry at Kulunga IDC (Industrial Development Council) area under Brahmani Taranga police station in Rourkela on Thursday.
The deceased worker, identified as Chinmay Behera is a resident of Jajpur district. Two injured labourers, Parameswar Kisan, and Abhisek Kumar have been admitted to a private hospital in the steel city. Their condition is stated to be critical.
The incident occurred after one of the furnaces blew up due to unknown reasons while the workers were on duty at the plant.
Senior officials and technical experts rushed to the spot and launched an inquiry to find out the exact reason of the explosion.
The fire tender units also reached the spot and started operations to extinguish the blaze.
A team of police also reached the accident spot and started an investigation.
