Berhampur: The family of lady police Sub-Inspector, Swagatika Behera, who allegedly died by suicide, staged an agitation in front of G Udyagiri police station in Kandhamal district on Sunday.
The family lodged a complaint with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tirupati Rao Patnaik in which Behera’s mother levelled allegations on her immediate senior, IIC G Udaygiri, Rebati Sabar.
“My daughter was under intense pressure all the time and used to say that the Inspector used to harass her mentally. I am a widow who raised my daughter with a lot of hardships. She was my sole support, I seek justice,” the deceased SI’s mother said.
Behera was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her home on Saturday morning. She was immediately taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
According to the deceased’s brother, Behera was under duress because of misbehaviour, use of slangs and harassment inflicted by her boss. “The case needs a thorough probe and we demand the suspension of the IIC,” he said.
Confirming receipt of the complaint against Sabar, Patnaik said, “The matter is being investigated, but we have never received any complaints against the IIC.”
