Bhubaneswar: Activists of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party today hurled eggs at the official residence of Minister of State (MoS) Home Dibya Shankar Mishra near the Capital Hospital square here.
The slogan-shouting NSUI activists sought dismissal of Mishra from his post for his alleged involvement in the lady teacher missing case.
The activists demanded that the Minister should first resign from his post to ensure that the victim’s family get justice.
While the activists made attempts to barge into the premises of the MoS’s official residence, they were taken into custody by the police.
Around 30-40 of the NSUI activists have been detained by the police.
Senior Congressman and Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja apart from targeting the Minister has demanded a CBI enquiry into the incident.
BJP State President Samir Mohanty also demanded for Mishra’s resignation and said that a team of the party’s Mahila Morcha will be visiting the victim’s family tomorrow.
Victim Mamita Meher’s father has alleged that his daughter has been raped and then murdered. He has further alleged that pressure is being mounted on the police from the top and it is going to affect the investigation.
On the other hand senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and Government Chief Whip in the Odisha Assembly Pramila Mallick has alleged that since the Opposition is bereft of issues, it is picking up these issues and demanding for the Minister’s resignation.
Mallick said that the matter is under investigation and added that she has complete faith in the investigation process.
She refrained from making any direct comments on the issue claiming that she does not have much knowledge of it.
Mamita Meher of Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling of Kalahandi district has been missing for 11 days.
Today a body was recovered from the site of the under-construction stadium at Mahaling.
Suspecting Mamita was murdered and buried in the Mahaling High School Stadium, police today dug out a charred body from the site.
As per sources, Gobinda Sahu, President of Sunshine School management committee and the prime accused in the case, is the contractor of the stadium.
Police had detained Sahu after an FIR was lodged against him by Mamita’s brother Bunty, who had alleged that Sahu was operating a sex racket in the school which his sister had vehemently opposed and threatened to expose.
Sahu, however, managed to escape from Titlagarh police barrack on Sunday. While he is still untraceable, Sindhekela police have seized a car reportedly registered in his name. Balangir SP has issued a reward of One lakh for any possible leads on Sahu.
