Koraput: Train operations on the Koraput-Jeypore railway route were severely disrupted today after a landslide blocked the tracks near Jarati railway station around 3 PM. The incident, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region, occurred at the 208 km mark between Jarati and Maliguda on the Koraput-Kirandul (KK) line.
The landslide caused soil and debris to fall onto the tracks just before a scheduled train was due to pass, potentially averting a major mishap. Railway officials acted swiftly, initiating restoration and clearance operations to remove the debris and resume services as soon as possible.
According to K. Sandeep, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Waltair Division (East Coast Railway), train services on the route have been temporarily affected. Two trains have been cancelled for today:
Train No. 18448 – Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express
Train No. 18516 – Kirandul to Visakhapatnam Night Express
Meanwhile, Rourkela Express (from Jagdalpur) and Hirakhand Express (towards Bhubaneswar) have been delayed in reaching Koraput, while the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul train is also facing delays due to the blocked track.
Railway authorities have visited the site and are overseeing the rescue and restoration work, while expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers. Continuous rainfall in the hilly terrain continues to pose challenges, but teams are working on a war footing to restore normalcy.
