Bhubaneswar: The last date for farmers to register their names under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is July 31. The State government on 7th July this year issued a notification for the inclusion of farmers of eight notified crops in Kharif 2024.
According to an official press release, a record number of farmers registered under PMFBY in Kharif 2023 with the active cooperation of the district administration. Like last year, in the current year the State government will bear the farmer’s share for land up to 2 hectares and for validity of the application farmers have to pay Re 1.
In view of the above facts, the District Magistrates are requested to make all possible efforts to increase the registration of farmers under the scheme for better risk mitigation.
In the upcoming Kharif season, at least 20 per cent of the areas and farmers should be included under this program, said Principal Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee.
Informing about insurance fraud Padhee mentioned that it has come to notice that several unscrupulous people insuring on government land, non-agricultural land and on someone else’s land.
Collectors have been apprised through a letter to take appropriate action against all such dishonest persons and their associates to protect the interests of genuine farmers.
