Puri: The mortal remains of National award-winning film director Manmohan Mahapatra were consigned to flames on Tuesday at the crematorium at Swargadwara here.
Mahapatra was 69 and breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar yesterday.
Briefing the media regarding the last rites, ADM Puri Pradip Kumar Sahoo said, “The last rites were completed with full state honours by 10.15 am with guard of honour. The arrangements were ensured by the district administration and were completed without any hindrance.”
Apart from family and friends, several members of the Odia film fraternity and Government officials were present to bid the filmmaker the final goodbye.
Mahapatra has won eight consecutive national film awards for his films Nishita Swapna, Majhi Pahacha, Klanta Aparanha, Neeraba Jhada, Seeta Raati and Bhinna Samaya. Mahapatra’s first film ‘Seeta Raati’ (1976) was the first Odia film to be screened at International film festival in 1982.
