**Bhubaneswar/Cuttack:** The State Bar Council issued a show-cause notice to Law and Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Kumar Sahu asking to surrender his lawyer’s license as it violates the Office of the Profit Act.
Ranjit Das, a lawyer from Nayagarh, who is also a member of Bar Council, had complained that the Sahu had got license in 1996 and despite being minister twice he is yet to surrender his license.
“He (Arun Sahu) had got lawyer’s license from the State Bar Council in 1996 to practice law but after being a minister, it was mandatory on his part to surrender the license as per the norms,” said Das.
After his complaint, the Bar Council has served show-cause notice to the minister on Thursday.
Blaming Chief Minister directly in this case, BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said, “The man who was supposed to be law-abiding has turned violator. The Chief Minister who had vowed people to give legal protection should answer this as he is answerable now.
“Our party always believes in legal procedures and we never take any decision emotionally. BJD will sort out the matter legally,” said BJD spokesperson Dibyashankar Mishra.
Meanwhile, Sahu declined to comment on the matter and said he had not got any notice.
