Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a lawyer allegedly set himself on fire in his house at Pandara in Bhubaneswar’s Mancheswar police station area. The incident occurred on Thursday night, and the cause of death remains unclear, with questions surrounding whether it was a case of murder or suicide.

The deceased lawyer has been identified as Deepak Kumar Sahu, a resident of Pandara.

According to reports, when Deepak’s wife called him for dinner around 10 pm last night, the latter said he was going to the roof and would be back soon. In the meantime, Deepak poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze on the roof of his house. When Deepak didn’t return, his wife went to check on him.

She was taken aback to find the door locked and a burning smell emanated from the rooftop. After breaking open the door with the help of neighbours, she found Deepak was burnt completely.

It is learnt that Deepak was a practicing lawyer and lived with his wife, two children, and mother.

According to sources, Deepak was suffering from mental health issues and was taking medication. However, the exact reason behind his drastic action remains unknown.

Meanwhile, Mancheswar police have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding Deepak’s death.

The body has been seized, and further investigation is underway.
