Sundargarh: The District Lawyers’ Association has demanded that January 1 should be officially observed as ‘Sundargarh Foundation Day’ by the district administration every year as on that day in 1948 the two princely states of Gangpurgarh (old name of Sundargarh) and Bonaigarh got merged into a district of the Indian republic under the leadership of the then Union Home Minister Sardar Baallav Bhai Patel.
The lawyers’ association met Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
The legal luminaries also urged the Collector to change the name of ‘Jatra’ into ‘Gangpur Mahotsav’.
As the Sundargarh Lok Mahotsav named as ‘Jatra’ is being organized by the district administration here at the headquarters town since long in month of January every year, the District Lawyers’ Association seeks that it ought to be observed from the slated Janaury 1 instead of any other dates.
Prominent among others, District Lawyers’Association president Kamal Lochan Sen, vice-president Naresh Naik, secretary Ashok Swain and assistant secretary Pranab Singh interacted with the Collector while submitting the memorandum.
