Bhubaneswar: Cracking a whip on Government lecturers who are engaged in private tuitions, the State Government has stated that if any complaints are received, strict action would be initiated against them.
Higher Education Minister Arun Sahu today said, those lecturers who are employed by the State Government are not allowed to work as private tutors or associate themselves with coaching centres.
“If we come to know about any lecturer from our own sources, or if the parents raise a complaint, the Department will take action against them,” said Sahu, on the sidelines of State Level Parents Convention of +3 Colleges, convened by Odisha Abhibhabaka Mahasangha.
Sources said, there has been resentment among students and their parents over some Government College lecturers diverting their attention towards private coaching. This has affected the quality of teaching and Government colleges, a group of parents said.
Sahu added that the Government is mooting steps to strength the Governing Bodies of colleges across Odisha. People from different walks of life who have expertise in managing educational institutions and experienced academicians will be appointed as President of the Governing Bodies, he said.
“Besides, elected representatives will no longer be members of the College Governing bodies. The Department will chalk guidelines in this regard soon,” he added. Sources said, parents association members are likely to be a part of the college Governing Bodies.
