Left Parties, Congress Observe 6-Hour Odisha Bandh

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress is supporting the 6 hours (6 am to 12 noon) Bandh observed by the Left parties across the State today over astronomical hike in prices of fuel and other essential commodities.

Bandh supporters have blocked roads at various places and are also staging protests at major railway stations including Bhubaneswar and Berhampur. Many government and private offices have been closed.

They have alleged that with the hike in prices, the Government is imposing an extra burden on the consumers already affected by the current economic and social crisis due to Covid-19.

In view of the Bandh, Special Secretary (Home) Dr. Santosh Bala had yesterday asked all Collectors to take all preventive measures to maintain law and order and maintenance of essential services.

It is worthwhile to mention that the Odisha Congress had earlier announced to observe a statewide protest from July 7 to 17 against the rise in fuel prices and other issues. As per its agenda, the party had requested all consumers in the State to cooperate with the movement by boycotting the purchase of fuel on July 15.
