Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Legal Metrology under the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has carried out an extensive crackdown on irregularities, conducting 4,22,484 raids in the last two fiscal years and seven months (from the beginning of 2022-23 to October 2024).
This was revealed by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra in the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday.
Responding to a query by BJP MLA from Brahmagiri, Upasana Mohapatra, the Minister stated that the raids resulted in the registration of 13,435 cases of irregularities. A total fine of ₹3,78,39,300 has been collected during the same period.
The Directorate, which is responsible for ensuring accurate weights and measures in trade and consumer protection, operates with a team of 153 employees, the Minister added.
