Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped residents of Sahedi village in Sambalpur district after reports of a leopard killing a person came to the fore.
Shada Munda, a resident of the village under Nakatideula Range of Rairakhol was reportedly killed after being attacked by a leopard on Friday, sources said.
He fell prey to the leopard when he had gone to the forest to collect wood. When he did not return home, her family searched for him and found his mutilated body in the forest.
Upon being informed, forest department officials reached the spot, seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the forest department has launched a probe into the matter.
Last year, Nuapada district also encountered a similar incident in which a 45-year-old woman was mauled to death by a leopard.
The deceased identified as Rameswari Majhi of Silaribahara village adjoining Sunabeda sanctuary had gone to answer nature’s call in a nearby forest when she was attacked by the leopard.
As she delayed to return home, her family searched for her and found her dead in the forest.
