Puri: Prompt action by lifeguards averted a major tragedy after four tourists were rescued from drowning while bathing in the sea at multiple locations along the Puri beach on Thursday.
The incident occurred across sea sectors 7, 8, and 13, where strong currents reportedly put the tourists in distress. The rescued individuals have been identified as Sukdeb Pal and Keshab Bag from West Bengal, along with Shantanu Kumar Sahu and Ayushman Subuddhi from Khordha district.
Lifeguards on duty responded swiftly and managed to pull all four individuals safely out of the water. They were administered primary medical treatment on the beach, and their condition is reported to be stable.
The incident once again highlights the recurring dangers associated with sea bathing in Puri, particularly due to unpredictable currents and lack of awareness among visitors. Despite repeated advisories, tourists often venture into unsafe zones or ignore warning flags.
Authorities and safety personnel have stressed the need for increased awareness among tourists regarding sea safety norms. There is also a growing demand for the administration to intensify awareness campaigns and implement stricter monitoring along vulnerable stretches of the beach to prevent such incidents.
