Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a yellow warning for isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds, with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph, over parts of northern Odisha. The warning is valid until March 12, 2026.
According to the IMD’s midday weather bulletin, the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak are most likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. Light to moderate rainfall or isolated thunderstorms may occur at one or two places in these districts on March 11, 2026, while the rest of Odisha is expected to see predominantly dry weather.
The yellow warning continues into March 12, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected again at isolated locations in the same four districts. Residents are advised to take precautions, avoid outdoor activities during storms, and secure loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds.
The IMD also urged farmers, fishermen, and commuters to remain alert and stay updated on weather forecasts over the next few days.
