Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here Friday said light to moderate rain will continue in several districts of Odisha on Friday under the influence of a low-pressure system in the north Bay of Bengal. Another cyclonic disturbance is like to form in the Bay of Bengal on July 9 resulting in heavy downpours in several districts.
The low-pressure line has now extended over north Odisha’s Balasore to east-central Bay of Bengal, while the cyclone is active from the Ganges valley to north Odisha. As a result, the IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in the state for the next 4 days.
The weather office has issued a yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Nuapada, Balangir, Burgad, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh, while a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain in Devgarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sonpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput districts. It has been forecast that the total amount of rain in these districts may range from 70 mm to 200 mm.
A warning for heavy rain has been issued to eight Odisha districts on Saturday. Eight districts in Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain on June 9.
