Bargarh: In a shocking incident, two women lost their lives due to lightning strikes at Atabira police station area of Bargarh district on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Shanti Chatria, 48, from Naliyan Jhupudi village, and Yashoda Mallik, 36, from Topa village.

According to reports, Shanti Chatria was returning home after collecting firewood when she was struck by lightning on her chest. Yashoda Mallik, on the other hand, was on her way to the field to deliver food to her husband, a daily wage laborer, when the lightning strike occurred.

Both women were rushed to the Atabira Health Centre, where the doctor declared them dead. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The Atabira area has been experiencing unseasonal rain, thunder, and lightning for the past five days, which has not only caused loss of life but also damaged paddy crops, affecting local farmers. The incident highlights the vulnerability of people in rural areas to natural disasters and the need for adequate precautions and support.
