Jeypore: In a tragic incident, three people were killed by lightning strikes while working in the fields at Kandhaputaband village under Ampabali panchayat in Koraput district.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, creating a mournful atmosphere. The deceased have been identified as Gemel Krishna and his daughter Gemel Kami, who died when lightning struck the tree they were taking shelter under during a sudden rainstorm and thunder.
Gemel Krishna’s wife, Gemel Wolsi, had walked ahead and survived. Another relative, Gemel Tumbai, who was working in a separate field, also died due to a lightning strike.
After receiving news of the incident, social worker Subash Galungu Bhoi and others from Pedapadu village reached the spot, inspected the scene, and arranged for post-mortem examinations at the Pattangi Community Health Center.
Zila Parishad member Laichchan Khara met with Tehsildar Debendra Bahadur Singh Dharua to discuss government assistance for the families of the deceased. The Tehsildar assured that steps would be taken for government assistance after investigations
