Cuttack: A local BJP leader of Mahanga area, Kulamani Baral and one of his associates was allegedly murdered by a group of unidentified men on Saturday evening.
Baral, BJP’s Salepur in-charge and former chairman of Mahanga Block was returning home with his associate Dibya Singh Baral on a motorcycle when the assailants attacked him at Jankoti.
The group comprising six men hacked the duo repeatedly leaving them seriously injured. They were rushed by locals to Mahanga Community Health Centre where Baral was declared dead.
Dibya was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He succumbed while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical.
Cuttack Rural police have registered a case and investigating into the incident. The motive behind the attack was stated to be old enmity. Meanwhile, a manhunt is on to nab the attackers, the police said.
