Cuttack: A group of cops belonging to Dhenkanal police were beaten up near Nuapatana chowk in Athagarh when they were returning from an investigation. A sub inspector sustained injuries in the assault and the locals snatched his service pistol as well, said sources.
According to reports, the police team from Dhenkanal had gone to Tigiria for nabbing an accused in a case. They raided the house of a relative of the accused and detained one of his cousins. However, the police team in civil dress and a private car was assaulted on their way back.
Athgarh SDPO Bijay Kumar Bishi rushed to the spot and started an inquiry into the incident. Tigiria police rescued their Dhenkanal counterparts and assisted the injured SI.
