Bhubaneswar: At least three persons sustained serious injuries following clash over an intrusion in the strong (EVM) room of BJB college here. According to reports, a group of locals spotted an unidentified and unauthorised youth and prevented him from entering the strong room.
They alleged that the police did not support them in forbidding the youth from intruding into the restricted area which led to a clash. While the youth in question sustained injuries, two persons working as generator operators were also not spared.
One among the three injured persons is stated to be critical and all of them have been shifted to Capital Hospital. The police resorted to mild baton-charge to disperse the crowd which had become unruly and violent.
Political leaders and senior police officials rushed to BJB College following the incident. Till last reports came, the situation on the premises continued to be tense and security was enhanced at the counting centre which is already fortified.
Khurda Collector reached at the spot and carried out an assessment of the incident. He said that the strong room is safe and secured. “No one entered the strong room and the CCTV cameras are all functional. The political workers are reacting over rumours,” he said appealing for peace. Police have been deployed in the area to avert any further escalation.
