Bolangir: The COVID-19 pandemic has spared none. Be it the educated masses, privileged ones or the downtrodden, everyone has an ordeal to share.
A case in point is the story of Anant Beria, an engineer who lost his job at Chennai and returned home with no savings. Beria, a native of Balangir’s Jurlakani village in Gaibahal panchayat of Deogaon block is forced to work as a labourer to meet the daily needs of his family.
The youth nurtured many dreams when he left home. He was engaged in road construction work at Chennai with a private firm and earned Rs 15,000 a month. However, the lockdown triggered by coronavirus crisis pushed him back home and today Beria is a labourer digging canals in his village.
Both Beria and his father Baishnab work as labourers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (MGNREGA). However, a gleam of hope shined for this Balangir engineer when Collector Chanchal Rana was on an inspection tour to Deogaon.
The engineer working as a MGNREGA worker caught the attention of Rana who asked Beria to meet him at the Collectorate. Beria and Baishnab met Rana at his office today. The Collector has assured them to provide a good opportunity for youth.
“A BTech graduate should be given a suitable opportunity to work as an engineer. While I will make efforts in official capacity for Beria, on a personal level also I will try and find a good job for him,” said Rana.
