Baripada: A gang of looters, who came in an expensive car to loot an ATM, left the vehicle to escape police.
The bizarre incident took place at Ranibandha Gangahar under Khunta police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
They fled the place leaving behind the car after failing to cross a bamboo bridge over a canal. Police later recovered a gas cutter, spray, face mask and shirts from the vehicle.
Police suspect the role of the gang in the loot of two ATMs in Soro area of Balasore on Wednesday night.
They probably forgot the route and drove in wrong way trying to cross a bamboo bridge, police said.
As the vehicle could not cross, the looters left the vehicle and escaped. Along with this, another group of the same gang was traveling in a Bolero vehicle, while the police tried to apprehend both vehicles, they ran away. The vehicles used in the crime were registered in Jharkhand, police suspect that they might be an inter-state gang.
Khunta police seized the vehicle and brought it to the police station. Police launched an investigation.
