Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Supremo Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of renowned economist, author, and Padma Bhushan awardee Meghnad Desai.
In a tweet, Patnaik remembered Desai for his insightful commentaries on various subjects and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and followers.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of eminent economist, author, and Padma Bhushan awardee #MeghnadDesai. He will be remembered for his erudite commentaries on varied subjects. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, friends, and followers in the hour of grief. #OmShanti,” read Patnaik’s tweet.
House of Lords member Desai passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 85. Desai was a distinguished economist.
Hailing from Gujarat, India, Desai served as emeritus professor of economics at the London School of Economics, teaching there from 1965 to 2003.
