Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea in the early morning (0530 hours IST) on Monday.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mritunjaya Mohapatra has said that October 24 and 25 are very crucial and the wind speed can be between 100 and 120 kmph during this period. The low pressure area is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. Mohapatra has also warned that there will be high tides in the sea.
Due to the impact of the storm, it will rain in Odisha from October 23. A yellow warning for heavy has been issued in 10 districts of Odisha on October 23 and 24. IMD has issued a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts. Similarly, the regional weather center has issued an orange warning in five districts and yellow warning in 12 districts.
