Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its midday weather bulletin has said that under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining north Odisha, a Low Pressure Area (LoPAR) has formed over north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal Coasts. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height. The Monsoon Trough at mean sea level now passes through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Lucknow, Gaya, Ranchi, center of Low Pressure Area over north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal Coasts and thence southeastwards to east central Bay of Bengal.
Under the influence of the system, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha during the next five days and has warned of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at places. The IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for places where heavy rainfall is indicated and an ‘orange’ alert for places where heavy to very heavy rainfall is indicated.

Under the influence of low pressure area over North Odisha and adjoining south Gangatic West Bengal coast & strong monsoon flow, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is very likely along & off Odisha coast, West central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during 1st and 2nd Aug 2023. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along & off Odisha coast, Northwest & adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal during 1st and 2nd Aug 2023, the IMD has warned.
