Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over east-central Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards, concentrated into a depression and lay centered over the same region at 5.30 am, about 730 km southeast of Paradip in Odisha, 770 km south-southeast of Sagar Island in West Bengal and 740 km south-southeast of Khepupara in Bangladesh.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday over east-central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, continuing to move northwestwards, it is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by Thursday morning and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during Thursday night and Friday morning as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.
The wind speed will increase as the potential cyclone approaches the coast. The wind speed will be 55 to 65 kmph and gusts will reach 75 kilometers per hour in the east-central Bay of Bengal on Tuesday evening. The wind speed will increase on Wednesday evening it may be 70 to 90 kmph in the east-central Bay of Bengal. It may increase to 100 kmph.
Puri, Khordha, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to experience wind speed of 60 to 90 kmph, with a maximum speed of 100 kmph. In Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore, wind speed is likely to reach 100 to 110 kmph, with a maximum speed of 120 kmph.
In Ganjam, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundergarh districts, wind speed is likely to reach 50 to 60 kmph, with a maximum speed of 70 kmph.
The storm will take a severe form from Wednesday night and the IMD has issued a red alert has been for seven Odisha districts.
The storm will move from the east-central Bay of Bengal towards northwest and will head towards the coast. During landfall, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Jajpur in Odisha will receive heavy rain. The IMD has warned that there will be more than 300 mm of rain and the wind speed is likely to be 100 to 120 kmph.
