Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area formed over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal now lies over the central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move slowly nearly northwards and intensify into depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts around September 9.
Thereafter, it is likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, Jharkhand and adjoining north Chhattisgarh during subsequent 3-4 days, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a release.
Several districts in Odisha will receive heavy rain for three days from Friday. Coastal Odisha is likely to receive heavy rain on the day of Ganesh Puja on Saturday. The IMD has issued yellow alert for heavy rain in 18 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Bolangir.
