Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a depression within the next 24 hours.
Under the influence of this system, many parts of Odisha are likely to experience widespread rainfall over the next three days. The IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of the state.
“The low pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, West Bengal and north Odisha moved north-northwestwards and lay as a well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 14th July, 2025. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression during the next 24 hours”, read the IMD release.
Meanwhile, the regional weather office has forecast heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha due to the formation of two low-pressure systems. One low-pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, West Bengal, and north Odisha, while another low-pressure area is situated over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for six districts in Odisha, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. These districts include Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.
Additionally, several other districts, including Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Deogarh, Balangir, and Kandhamal, are expected to experience heavy rainfall.
