Bhubaneswar: The 22-day-long Chandan Yatra of Lord Lingaraj is scheduled to commence on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on April 23. The Trust Board of Lingaraj Temple held a meeting with the servitors and other stakeholders to finalise the schedule for the much-awaited festival.
As per the schedule, the Sahanamela Darshan of Lord Lingaraj would be suspended from 12 noon every day during Chandan Yatra. The wooden palanquins for Lord Lingaraj and other deities would be readied by 4 pm.
The deities would be carried to Bindusagar tank for Chandan Yatra soon after the ‘Dwipahara Dhoopa’ ritual at 5.30 pm, a temple trust board official said.
The temple authorities have requested Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to decorate the Chapa (raft) with lights. The civic authorities have put restrictions on the sale of non-vegetarian items in the surroundings of Bindusagar tank for the festival.
Security forces and fire personnel will be deployed in large numbers near Bindusagar for smooth conduct of the Chandan Yatra, the police said.
