**Jharsuguda:** A portion of the Lotus Bridge connecting Jharsuguda and Sundegarh caved in on Sunday morning making the traffic stand still. The bridge is situated at Banjari panchayat under Lakhanpur block of Sundergarh district.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 10:00 pm on Saturday night when a chips loaded Hyva vehicle was crossing the bridge. Though the driver along with the vehicle was rescued after the incident came into light, the connection between Belpahad and Hemgir has been disrupted. The brigde is in between Belpahar and Hemgir adjoining the MCL road, that is approximately 8 km away from Belpahar.
The bridge was the only way to Burla hospital for all kinds of medical purposes. Along with that the goods and transport services to Jharsuguda has also been affected.
Notably, few years back Border Road Organisation (BRO) had done this bridge construction with MCL funding.
