Bhubaneswar: In the wake of a forecast by the IMD on another low pressure in Bay of Bengal, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena has asked Collectors to remain on high alert.
According to the IMD, the following districts will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall due to the low pressure on Friday and Saturday:
Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Bolangir, Sonepur and Boudh.
An Orange Warning has been issued by the IMD for these 17 districts.
Similarly, on Saturday and Sunday, an Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for the following districts:
Nuapada, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur and Kalahandi.
Surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is expected along and off Odisha coast on August 19 and 20. The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
“Districts under Orange and Yellow warning will need to remain in readiness to meet any eventuality, particularly water logging and landslide in hilly region,” the SRC noted.
