Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure system has developed over the Gangetic West Bengal region and its surrounding areas. As a result, weather disturbance is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to multiple districts in Odisha today.
As per the IMD forecast, the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Nuapada are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall today. An Orange warning has been issued for these districts by the weather department.
Additionally, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Cuttack, and Dhenkanal are expected to receive significant rainfall, with a Yellow warning issued for these areas. Thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted, with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph.
On Sunday, Baripada received a maximum of 93 mm of rainfall. Other areas also experienced significant rainfall, with Balasore receiving 67 mm, Paradip 20.2 mm, Balangir 11.5 mm and Dhenkanal 12 mm. Heavy rainfall was also reported in Bhubaneswar and Puri.
In the last 24 hours, several areas in Odisha have experienced significant rainfall. Jharsuguda’s Deogan received 306 mm of rainfall, while Sambalpur’s Bamra recorded 285.4 mm. Other areas that received substantial rainfall include Jharsuguda’s Laikera with 270.4 mm, Kolabira with 233 mm, and Sundargarh with 207.8 mm. Additionally, Keonjhar’s Bansal received 179.9 mm, Sundargarh’s Hemgiri received 176 mm, and Keonjhar’s Telkoi recorded 106 mm of rainfall.
These heavy rainfall incidents are likely to impact the region’s weather and daily activities.
